I found Hector when I was working in an industrial area in the middle of the Valley in LA. When I first saw him he was fat and healthy and appeared to be someone's cat. I petted him and went on my way. A few months later, Hector was hiding in the bushes, weighing a great deal less, and limping. Upon closer inspection, Hector had a large cut on his underside, most likely resulting from being hit by a car. He was very hungry and ate two entire cans of cat food right on the spot. I brought him to the vet that night, where he was stitched up and neutered. He now has a slight permanent limp and resides in our neighborhood. |
Street Bun was found in our neighborhood wandering the streets one morning. She is a sweet bunny who loves to be petted. She also loves to be held, which makes her an extra special bunny. Street Bun resides in Bunville, where she is an integral part of our herd. |
When I went to the local shelter to find my Manx cat that had been missing for a few weeks, I encountered this lovely family. Mommie and her five kittens were scheduled to be killed the next day. I was told that it was standard practice to put baby kittens down if they are dropped off before they are weaned, even if the Mom is with them. I quickly adopted them and they are growing up perfectly beautiful! |
Napolean fell off his Mommie's back and cut his stomach pretty badly during the fall. He was a tiny little thing and we had no idea how to take care of him. Now we know a lot about opossums, and are ready when ever we are contacted by someone who has found some orphans. |
Oscar was found by a friend of a friend running around a hotel in the middle of busy traffic when he was only about two and a half months old. After Oscar had ample time to be found by his owners, this friend decided to take his fate into his own hands. Oscar soon found a home at Willa's Ark, along with all of the other critters. |
As I was shopping at PetsMart, a couple was frantically trying to figure out what they could feed this screaming little dirty red kitten who was approximately 2 weeks old. When I saw how cute he was and how confused they were, I quickly offered to take him off their hands and take care of him. Red Cat was a happy kitten who was determined to eat KMR for his entire life. It took a lot of persuading to get him on big cat food, and to this day he only eats tuna fish and dry cat food. Oh, and he eats KMR of course! |
Miss Pearl the Squirrel fell out of her nest situated 30-40 feet high in the top of a palm tree. She was near three weeks old, no teeth and only measured about three inches. We fed her KMR, and then switched her to our squirrel recipe when she was old enough. She accompanied me to grad school at UCLA until she could be on her own. Miss Pearl was gathering soft bedding for her nest at the time of this photo. |
Mimi kitten was found by a friend in an industrial area hiding under heavy work trucks. He was hungry and covered with oil and dirt. Mimi was quickly placed with a caring family where he is now the center of attention. He lives in the house used in the film "Jerry Maguire", where Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) screams "Show me the money!". Let's just say he has plenty of roaming room. |
Squirrel Baby was found by a friend of a friend and was quickly delivered to us to care for. Living in one of our shirts and eating our squirrel recipe, she quickly learned where her bread was buttered. She has been a devoted and loving squirrel, always visiting to ask for nuts and snacks. Squirrel Baby accompanied my husband to grad school at USC until she was old enough to be on her own. |
Spring time is when baby opossums are born, and we got our share of orphans in 2002. These three siblings were found in someone's back yard and we were contacted to help raise them until they could be on their own. We fed them a proper opossum diet and they eventually left the house to forage on their own outdoors. Opossums can assimilate back to the outdoors fairly well if they receive the right diet. |
Gretta was found abandoned at about 6 weeks old on a country road in the outskirts of LA. She was half starved and extremely scared. She ate two whole 22oz cans of dog food right off the bat. She is now living with us and is Cattle Dog's best friend. She is a wonderful watch dog and eager to please, but still scared and apprehensive when approached by a stranger. |
